Another WrestleMania weekend came to an end and provided fans with plenty of memorable moments that’ll be talked about for years to come. NXT kicked-off the weekend festivities on Friday night with another incredible TakeOver event that was main evented by the two-out-of-three falls match between the leader of the Undisputed Era, Adam Cole, and Johnny Gargano for the vacant NXT Championship.

The highlight of the weekend for WWE was Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Ronda Rousey making history as the first women to main event WrestleMania. Becky closed the show by becoming the new Raw and Smackdown Women’s Champion after pinning Ronda Rousey in the winner take all triple threat match.

Here are some highlights from WrestleMania weekend:

Johnny Gargano Becomes Champion

Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole put on a great two-out-of-three falls match in the main event of NXT TakeOver and had fans on the edge of their seats with all the near falls and run-ins in a match that could’ve gone either way.

During the third and decisive fall, the Undisputed Era distracted the referee, which allowed Cole to get the advantage and hit Gargano with the Last Shot, but Gargano still managed to kick out to a massive pop from the crowd. The crowd’s ovation got louder after each time Gargano kicked-out and it made the moment even greater when he submitted Cole to become the new champion.

The show closed with a special moment on the stage with Gargano, wife Candace LeRae, and his former DIY teammate and rival Tomasso Ciampa.

A true WrestleMania moment took place Sunday night; after eleven years in WWE, Kofi Kingston finally got his moment by defeating Daniel Bryan to become the new WWE Champion. This was a great moment for Kofi as he celebrated his along with his kids and The New Day, who had presented him with the WWE Championship and unveiled new merchandise.

Doctor of Thuganomics Returns

WrestleMania went old school when John Cena interrupted Elias’ performance with his doctor of thuganomics persona. This was an entertaining segment and a great way to use Cena on the show, while also providing fans with something different than what they’ve been accustomed to seeing.

Cena last appeared as the doctor of thuganomics during the buldup for his match with The Rock, which made for a nice surprise because it’s something Cena hasn’t done in a few years.

Kurt Angle and Batista Retire

WrestleMania marked the end of the legendary careers of former World Champions Kurt Angle and Batista. Angle lost his farewell match to Baron Corbin after missing a moonsault, which allowed Corbin to capitalize and hit his signature Deep Six for the win. Angle thanked the fans after the match and received a loud ovation as he exited the ring for the final time as an in-ring performer.

Batista wrestled his last match against former Evolution teammate Triple H in a grueling and violent No Holds Barred match. After all these years, Triple H finally defeated Batista in a on-one-one match, with some help from Ric Flair.

Batista later posted on his Instagram account that he was officially retiring from sports entertainment and thanked the fans for giving him the opportunity to suspend their disbelief for all these years and entertaining them.
