WWE return to Charlotte, North Carolina tonight with their Clash of Champions event that will see every title being defended as well as some other intriguing matchups that have will surely get the crowd invested long-term.

The biggest storylines heading into this event have been the WWE Universal Championship and Raw Tag Team Championship storyline between Universal Champion Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman.

On the Raw after SummerSlam, Strowman rushed the ring to aid Rollins, who had been getting beatdown, which led to the unlikely duo receiving a title shot against the Raw Tag Team Champions, where they would capture the titles. Even though they became tag champions, there has been tension between the two because they both want to be recognized as Universal Champion.

The match was then official for tonight’s PPV however, it took a few weeks for the two to sign the contract because of United States Champion AJ Styles’ interruption, which brought in WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin to mediate the contract signing. Both men were finally able to make their match official this past week on Raw, but they will have to do double duty as they are also scheduled to defend their Raw Tag Team Championships against the new team of Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.

It would be an unexpected outcome if Rollins and Strowman are able to retain their tag titles ahead of their main event matchup or if either of them end up turning heel, which would allow Roode and Ziggler to capture the titles and add another element to the Universal Championship match. Rollins and Strowman’s tag title reign likely won’t last long so they may have a plan in place to protect both men in a loss while still giving Roode and Ziggler the big win.

Another interesting wild card to look out for in this match is whether The Fiend will show. For weeks, it’s been expected that the winner of the Universal Championship main event will defend their title against The Field at the Hell in a Cell PPV next month.

Bray Wyatt has been featured weekly on WWE programming in the Firefly Funhouse segments in the leadup tonight’s PPV, so it’ll be interesting to see if he shows up and who he has his sights on for a potential Universal Championship match.
