Vice launched the first of their two-part second season premiere of ‘Dark Side of the Ring’ this past weekend, examining the murder-suicide of former World Champion Chris Benoit, which to this day is one of the biggest tragedies in the pro wrestling industry.

The first part went in great detail on the wrestling career of Benoit, his close friendship with Eddie Guerrero, and the love he had for his family. Benoit was described as being devoted to his art of pro wrestling and a perfectionist as it pertained to his preparation and the dedication that went into executing of all his maneuvers.

Wrestling fans hear from some of Benoit’s closest friends in the industry including Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko, Chavo Guerrero Jr., and Vickie Guerrero, and sister-in law, Sandra Toffoloni and his son, David Benoit, who each provie their opionions on Benoit and share their personal experiences with him.

Benoit’s early career wrestling in Japan and WCW is well documented early on as it was through a storyline with Kevin Sullivan that started his relationship with Nancy (known in WCW as Woman), who he would then go on to marry. Benoit's WWE debut is also discussed as being a real turning point in both his and Eddie Guerrero's career as the company was viewed as the perfect fit for both to showcase their creativity and become bigger stars.

The episode gives fans a better idea of what Benoit was like outside the ring and how everything changed following the passing of Eddie Guerrero. Eddie’s widow, Vickie, who also worked for WWE after his death, described Benoit as being devastated and that Eddie’s death took an emotional toll on his personal life. Vickie mentioned that Benoit’s wife, Nancy, stayed with her for a month after Eddie’s passing and recalled how hard Benoit had taken Eddie’s passing.

“Eddie had a beautiful gym upstairs. And I would go upstairs and the girls (daughters) would come down and they would say “mom, Chris is crying again” said Vickie and then added that when she saw Benoit crying in the gym, he told her that he was lost without Eddie being around anymore. Vickie recalled that “to see him just crying into my arms... it was just very emotional. He was a big strong man who was tough and quiet and strong…he broke my heart.”

The first part concluded with the immediate reaction following a meeting, where WWE Chairman Vince McMahon notified the roster that Benoit, along with his wife, Nancy and son, Daniel, had passed away and a preview shows what viewers can expect to see in part two.
