Dallas, TX--- Impact Wrestling’s annual event: Slammiversary takes place tonight from the Gilley’s Dallas in Dallas, Texas, which has been a great market for the company since they began holding events outside the Impact Zone over a decade ago.

Since 2005, Slammiversary has been Impact Wrestling’s second biggest annual event after Bound For Glory and has provided fans with many memorable moments and incredible matches that are still being talked about.  Last year’s event was very well received from fans and the company will look to raise the bar as they continue to show that Impact Wrestling is an entertaining and high-quality pro wrestling product.

Tonight’s card features a nice mixture of rising stars and recognizable names. Fans will definitely be in for an entertaining show, which could help Impact Wrestling find a new TV deal that’ll hopefully provide the company more exposure on a weekly basis.

Here are some matches that could lead to changes in Impact Wrestling’s programming:

Impact X-Division Championship: Rich Swann (c) vs Johnny Impact

Former Impact World Champion Johnny Impact will look to regain gold when he challenges Rich Swann for his X-Division Championship. Both wrestlers are known for their high-risk offense and could have match of the night when it’s all said and done.

X-division matches have always set Impact Wrestling apart from other companies because they’ve allowed they’ve made the division a focal point in the past and the X-Division Championship has helped launch successful careers for some of the top wrestlers in the world including AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Christopher Daniels.

I feel that this match will help elevate Rich Swann’s status in Impact Wrestling and lead to him transitioning into the main event scene for the company. The 28-year old is coming into the prime of his career and a great performance against a former world champion and veteran wrestler like Johnny Impact could legitimize his status as a main event caliber wrestler.

Prediction: Rich Swann retains

Intergender Match: Sami Callihan vs Tessa Blanchard

Slammiversary will feature an intergender match between the leader of oVe and former Impact Knockouts Champion Tessa Blanchard. This is an interesting matchup considering the buildup has shown Callihan show no signs of holding back and Blanchard proved that she can hold her own with any wrestler in Impact.

This match shows the outside the box thinking from Impact management because they are experimenting with intergender matches being a regular part of their programming, which is something AEW and WWE have distanced themselves from.

Since their debuts, both Sami Callihan and Tessa Blanchard have become prominent stars for the company and have used Impact as a platform to showcase how creative they can be in putting a feud and match together.

I feel that this match will result in Callihan getting the victory, but Blanchard taking him to the limit and this being a competitive back-and-forth matchup. Impact could be using this as a way to establish Blanchard as being the top pound-for-pound wrestler in the world regardless of gender. It would even be out of the realm of possibility to see Blanchard main event a future PPV event challenging for the Impact World Championship.

Prediction: Sami Callihan wins

Impact World Championship: Brian Cage (c) vs Michael Elgin

The main event will see Brian Cage defend his Impact World Championship against the company’s new signing Michael Elgin. Elgin made his debut at Rebellion when he showed up following the main event that saw Cage defeat Johnny Impact to capture the Impact World Championship, and essentially planted the seeds for this main event championship match to headline one the company’s biggest events.

Elgin has made a name for himself around the world and signing with Impact was significant because it allows the 32-year-old to potentially become the cornerstone of the company.

With Impact returning to the Greater Toronto Area next weekend for Fallout, I think having Michael Elgin capture the world title would be a great idea because the company could generate more interest in their event with a Canadian Impact World Champion.

Regardless of the outcome, I believe that this will only be the first of many matchups between these two as a rematch for next week’s event could be a possibility.

Prediction: Michael Elgin becomes new Impact World Champion
