It’s true what they say in professional wrestling, never say never.

Impact Wrestling returns to The Rebel Complex in Toronto, Canada for their PPV event Rebellion and features the in-ring return of Impact Wrestling Hall of Famer Gail Kim, who takes on Tessa Blanchard.

Much like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe, Gail Kim is one of the wrestlers whose name is synominis with Impact Wrestling. Gail’s legendary feuds and matches with Awesome Kong and Taryn Terrell are fondly remembered by fans as being highlights of the company even when they weren’t doing so well in terms of television ratings. The quality of the matches were great and Gail looks to replicate that when she wrestles Blanchard in front of her hometown crowd in Toronto.

Gail began her career in 2000, wrestling on the independent circuit and making a name for herself before being signed by WWE in 2002. She made her main roster debut in 2003, where she won the WWE Women’s Championship on her very first night, which was an incredible achievement.

in 2007, Gail made history by becoming the first-ever TNA Knockouts Champion, which was significant because TNA had been starting to feature women’s wrestlers more frequently on their weekly programming and Gail being the champion helped to legitimize the division and put other female talent on display.

At Bound For Glory in 2017, Gail made history once again by defeating Allie and Sienna to become the Impact Knockouts Champions for the seventh-time in her career, which set a new record for the company.

BarnBurner founder Joe Peisich, Aron Stevens (former WWE superstar Damien Sandow), and I had a chance to speak with Gail in anticipation of her in-ring return at Rebellion.

When talking about her match with Blanchard, Gail mentioned that she doesn’t want it to be just another match on the card:

“I told everyone you know, even though I’ve taken a year-plus off, I don’t want this to be just the match of the pay-per-view, I want this to be the match of the year.”

In terms of her preparation for the match and considering that she hasn't wrestled in over a year, Gail mentioned that she has taken her age into account knowing that she’ll be wrestling a younger opponent in Blanchard:

“I mean let’s face it, Tessa Blanchard is like almost half my age and she’s also a premium athlete at 23-years-old. She’s a girl to watch right now and for the future, so I just wanted to be able to you know hold my own and show that our generation is just as good as this generation.”

Fans can watch Gail Kim’s in-ring return at Impact Wrestling Rebellion, tonight on PPV and listen to the full interview on BarnBurner’s ‘On The Mat’ Wrestling show, which is available on 108 platforms including: iHeartRadio, Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, and the OSG Sports App.
