Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas was a guest on a special edition of BarnBurner Fired Up Extra, where he reflected on Owen Hart, who tragically passed away 20-years ago during WWE's Over The Edge pay-per-view event. BarnBurner founder Joe Peisich and I had the chance to speak with Jimmy about what happened that night and what it was like backstage. Jimmy also shared some fond memories of Owen includings some classic ribs that he pulled on both himself and Vince McMahon.

Owen Hart, performing as the Blue Blazer, was scheduled to wrestle The Godfather for the WWE Intercontinental Championship however, something went wrong during Owen's entrance and he fell from the rafters of the Kemper Arena.

Jimmy Korderas was scheduled to officiate that match between Owen and Godfather and was in the ring when it all happened. In the arena, a pre-recorded backstage interview with Owen Hart was playing on the titantron and Jimmy was clearing up the ring because there had been a hardcore match that had just finished.  Jimmy mentioned that while he had been clearing up the ring, he felt something brush against the side of his head and felt the top rope snapping out of his hand. He then went on to describe the situation:

"I turned and saw Owen laying there on his back and just went over. I knew something was weird because obviously he wasn't supposed to be there. I went over and called a couple of times and there was no response and I really started to panic and just started calling for help and after that everything was just...I don't know...it was very blurry because now the ring's filling up and now people were trying to attend to him and I just didn't know whether I should just stay out of the way or you know what I mean...you don't know what to do in that situation."

Jimmy then shared fond memories of Owen Hart and talked about whether tribute shows help talent grieve the loss of a friend and colleague and whether wrestling fans will ever see Owen be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
