This past Sunday, Toronto FC’s Alex Bono and Jonathan Osorio had a meet and greet with fans at Evangelista Sports in Vaughan, Ontario. Fans braved the cold temperatures and lined up outside the store for close to an hour for this rare opportunity to meet two of their favorite players.

Evangelista Sports is a store dedicated to everything soccer. They have a large selection of jerseys from the world’s top leagues and plenty of equipment and accessories for coaches to make the most out of their players’ experience on the field.

Bono and Osorio autographed photos, fans merchandise and took pictures with fans, making this a memorable day for all attendees and there was a season ticket giveaway for those in attendance as well. Toronto FC kicked off their 2019 MLS season with a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union and will be playing their home opener this coming Sunday, when they host the New England Revolution at BMO Field.

I attended the signing and was amazed at how many loyal Toronto FC fans came out to meet these two talented players. Even though it was a cold afternoon, fans were filing in and were more than happy to wait outside the store.

I spoke with a few fans on what it was like meeting Alex Bono and Jonathan Osorio. One fan brought up that he had been a huge fan of Osorio and felt that he's a great ambassador for Canadian soccer:

“Oso (Osorio) is by far my favorite TFC player… he does everything. Just watching him live last year was incredible. His improvement as a player, leader, and overall professional is the kind of thing youth players in our province can look at for inspiration and hopefully lead to a lot of them sticking with soccer. Guys like Osorio are why I’m confident in the direction the Canadian National (soccer) team is heading.”

I also had the chance to speak with Nick Martelli, who was one of the employees at the store, on what it was like for Evangelista Sports to host these Toronto FC players for the autograph signings:

“To see the amount of people that came to the store to see Toronto FCs Osorio and Bono and seeing how many people were interested in the event shows how big a fanbase TFC has and how much the game of soccer has grown and changed in Canada.”

Judging by the turnout, reception, and overall excitement, this was a successful signing that may lead to more players holding similar autograph signings/meet and greets at the store in the future. The layout was perfect and all attendees had the opportunity to chat briefly with the players and get all their memorabilia signed.

Toronto FC will look to continue their positive start to the season in their home opener on Sunday night.
