Big news came out of Bellator MMA this past week, when they held a press conference to announce that they’ll be bringing their first event to the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan, on December 29th and will feature a heavyweight main event between “The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

The two MMA legends are no strangers to competing in Japan as they were two of the most successful fighters in the Japanese promotion PRIDE FC, where they both built a reputation as being two of the most hard hitting fighters in MMA and they have the highlight reel knockouts to prove it.

It’s hard to believe that after all the years the two have been in the same organization whether it was PRIDE FC or now in Bellator, the two have never crossed paths in the cage. However, the now the time is right, and fans will finally be able to see these two legends battle it out inside the Bellator cage.

In a recent press release, Bellator President Scott Coker mentioned that this will be a historic event for the promotion:

Given the vast history of martial arts and MMA in Japan, and especially at Saitama Super Arena, this will be a very special show that no one will want to miss. This will, unquestionably, be a monumental event for Bellator and I am looking forward to the moment that Fedor and ‘Rampage’ walk out to a crowd that has known them since their careers began. I would also like to thank RIZIN for their help in making this event a possibility and we look forward to working together in the near future to showcase the best talent each organization has to offer.”

It’ll be interesting to see what other fights the promotion has in store for this event as it’ll also feature RIZIN fighters and broadcast live on Paramount Network.
