Bellator MMA is officially back!

After months of postponed events due to COVID-19, Bellator are returning to action with an exciting lineup of events beginning August 7 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The other dates include Bellator 244 on August 21 and Bellator 245 on September 11.

The highly anticipated lightweight rematch between “Iron” Michael Chandler and Benson “Smooth” Henderson will main event Bellator 243 and will air free on Paramount Network as well as streaming on DAZN.

Chandler and Henderson last fought one another in 2016, which saw Chandler get the split-decision victory over the former UFC Lightweight Champion in a close bout that at times could have gone either way. There will likely be title implications as the winner could be next in line for a Bellator Lightweight Championship depending on what happens with Patricio Pitbull in the Featherweight Grand Prix.

Henderson (28-8) will coming into this fight on a 4-fight winning streak that includes wins over Roger Huerta, Saad Awad, Adam Piccolotti, and Myles Jury, while Chandler (20-5) will be coming into this fight following a first round knockout win over Sidney Outlaw.

Although Henderson may have the slight advantage based on his winning streak and recent performances in the Bellator cage, Chandler should be the favourite based on their first bout, where he proved he could hang with a former UFC Champion, should be taken into account because he knows he has what it takes to defeat Henderson, while Henderson is trying to avenge the loss and might be in a situation where he is second guessing himself at times in order to avoid being taken down and slammed.

Regardless of what happened in their previous encounter, this is an excellent main event by Bellator as they continue adjusting to the new norm much like the UFC and other sports leagues have done. It will be interesting to see what other bouts the promotion have planned for Bellator 244 and Bellator 245 as before the pause, the Featherweight Grand Prix was taking place and a massive Bellator Middleweight Championship bout between former champion Gegard Mousassi and current Bellator Welterweight Champion Douglas Lima was scheduled to take place.

Who do you think will win the rematch?
