The Toronto Rock snapped a two-game skid and stopped a thrilling comeback by the Philadelphia Wings to clinch a playoff spot with a 12-11 win on Friday night.

Johnny Poweless had three goals and four assists on the night, while team leader in goals Rob Hellyer had three goals and three assists in the win.

Jordan Hall led the Wings with four goals on the night.

The Rock got the ball moving four minutes in the first quarter with Poweless netting his 15th of the year. The Wings added a power-play goal in the first quarter, but he Rock got two of their own and led 3-1 after one.

In the second, Hellyer opened the scoring just 1:20 in, while Challen Rogers slid the ball past Doug Buchan to make it 5-1 Toronto. Hall added two goals back to back in a span of three minutes to cut the deficit to three, but Toronto led by 7-4 and outshot Philadelphia 26-22 at the half.

The Rock started off the second half strong, with a highlight goal from Tom Schreiber, who went behind the net and over the head of Buchan to make it 8-4.  The goal was under review and was later allowed.  The Rock played solid defense, but the Wings were gaining momentum in the third, but the score was 11-7 after three for the home team.

The Wings made a ferocious comeback in the final quarter, and seemed to have made it a one-goal game with Vaughn Harris scooping the ball behind the net for the wraparound.  Upon review, the goal was disallowed and it was 11-9 Toronto, but right off the faceoff, the Wings made sure to score again and make it 11-10.  Poweless’ slick backhand pass to Brandon Slade made it 12-10, while Matt Rambo made it 12-11 in the dying seconds but couldn’t complete the comeback.
