The 12th and final installment of the Battle of Ontario saw the Toronto Marlies drop a 3-2 overtime decision to the Belleville Senators Saturday evening in their second last game of the season.

Both teams came out and played a physical and fast-paced game with each team earning three shots on goal in the opening minutes, but it was the Senators drew first blood late in the first. Rudolfs Balcers swatted the puck into the net to take the 1-0 lead.  The Marlies would end up playing catch up hockey for the rest of the game and tied it up on the four-minute power play as Drake Batherson received a double minor for high sticking. Jeremy Bracco beat Marcus Hogberg for his 22nd of the year to make it 1-1.  The Marlies were outshot in the first 11-10. The second period didn’t have any scoring, but Toronto managed to get just four shots on goal through the entire frame with Belleville outshooting the Sens 15-4.  The Marlies went 0-for-2 on the man advantage during the second period.

Balcers got the Sens on the board again at 7:26 of the third period with a power play goal, scoring right off the faceoff, but Toronto came right back with Pierre Engvall firing one through traffic to tie the game up at 2. Kristians Rubins and Jordan Subban assisted on Engvall’s 19th of the year. Chris Mueller had the best chance in the period to give the Marlies a lead but fired into the chest of Hogberg who made the save.

Chase Bailey netted the game-winner just 32 seconds into the extra frame, giving the Sens a 3-2 win in Toronto.

The Marlies have little time off as they face Cleveland in their regular season finale.
