The Washington Capitals won consecutive games for the first time in two weeks, as they nabbed a 3-2 road win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night.

Alexander Ovechkin notched his 650th career goal while Braden Holtby made 40 saves in the win.

John Tavares and Andreas Johnsson each scored for the Leafs, while Frederik Andersen made 25 saves.

The Caps opened the scoring at 3:54 of the second frame when Ovechkin netted one past Andersen on the power play. The Russian sniper now has 39 goals in 48 games against Toronto.

The Caps were up 2-0 at 12:07 when Tom Wilson hit Jake Gardiner behind the net.  Lars Eller grabbed the puck firing it to Brett Connelly who put it past Andersen for the lead.

The Leafs finally got on the board at 4:23 on Johnsson’s 16th goal of the year to make it 2-1.

Toronto got a power play, but it was the Caps that answered when Wilson netted his 16th of the year off a pass from Eller at 6:46 for a shorthanded goal and a 3-1 lead.

Tavares got the Leafs on the board again with 32.1 seconds left with Andersen on the bench for the extra man advantage to make it 3-2 but it wasn’t enough.  Washington held onto this one 3-2.
