Toronto Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers Game Report Dec 20th, 2018

Auston Matthews notched his second four point game of the seasons as the Toronto Maple Leafs dismantled the Florida Panthers 6-1 at home on Thursday.

Matthews had two goals and two assists, while Morgan Rielly had four assist. John Tavares scored twice, and Frederik Andersen made 25 saves in the win.

Panthers Goalie Roberto Luongo made 17 saves before being pulled in the third, while Henrik Borgstrom scored the only goal for Florida.

The Leafs opened the scoring late in the first on the power play, when Marner made a cross-ice pass to Matthews who tapped it in the side of the net for his 18th of the season and a 1-0 lead.

It was Matthews who got the Leafs up 2-0 in the second with another cross-ice feed from Rielly for his 19th of the season at 3:50. 

Nazem Kadri had a goal, but after review it was ruled that he had kicked the puck over the line.  He eventually notched his ninth of the year with a pass from Connor Brown to put the Leafs up 3-0. 

In the third it was Tavares’ turn, putting the puck away from the crease at 2:38 for his 22nd goal of the year.   Three minutes later Tavares had his 23rd goal off a pass from Marner at 5:41to make it 5-0.

The Panthers finally got on the board when Borgstrom got one past Andersen througha screen to make it 5-1.

Then on another man advantage, Marner then banked a shot off a Panthers defenseman for his 10th of the year and the 6-1 win.
