Chicago BlackHawks (5) @ Maple Leafs (4)

After being down 4-0 to the lightning on Monday, the Toronto Maple Leafs knew they had to be better.  

They had a chance to redeem themselves Wednesday night when they faced off against the Chicago Blackhawks.  
It didn’t end well. 
The Hawks gained a 4-0 lead by the second period and stopped another comeback by the Leafs for a 5-4 win in Toronto. 
Brendan Perlini had a goal and two assists while Brandon Saad had a goal and an assist for Chicago.  Duncan Keith, Dominik Kahun and Alex DeBrincat also scored for the Blackhawks, who have won four straight and are looking to grab the last wildcard spot. 

Corey Crawford stopped 17 of 18 shots but only played for two periods before leaving the game due to illness. Colin Delia came in relief and made 26 saves - in one period.  

Auston Matthews, Morgan Rielly and Andreas Johnsson each had a goal and an assist for Toronto, while William Nylander and Mitch Marner each had two assists. Frederik Andersen gave up four goals on 14 shots in the first before being pulled yet again and replaced by Garret Sparks, who made 24 saves.

Chicago made it 1-0 at 3:19 of the first period when Keith's shot that was deflected by Nylander, managed to get over the goal line before Auston Matthews could get to it. 

The Blackhawks made it 2-0 with 7:05 left when Perlini took a pass from Strome, and wired one past Andersen for for his fifth in the last four games.

Tavares lost the puck offensive leading to a 2-on-1 break the other way to make it 3-0.

Bad communication from Ron Hainsey to Frederik Gauthier left Saad all alone to make it 4-0 for the guests.  

I’m came Sparks for the second. 

Chicago made it 5-0 with 7 1/2 minutes left in the second when DeBrincat put his 38th goal past Sparks.  

Cue the comeback. 

Toronto finally got on the board with 1:33 left in the second when Rielly’s shot was deflected in by Johnsson for his 20th on the year. 

Matthews, made it 5-2 at 7:57 of the third with his 32nd on the year.  Rielly’ shot through traffic on the powerplay madenit 5-3 with just over 9 minutes remaining in the game. 

Tavares made it 5-4 with his career-high 39th goal past Delia with 1:31 left and continued to put pressure on the Hawks but couldn’t get it done
