HAMILTON, ON – Three goals in the 2nd period and two quick ones from Tyson Foerster helped lift Alexis Lafreniere’s Team White to victory at FirstOntario Centre Thursday night. Foerster added an assist on Braden Schneider’s game-winning goal three minutes later and was the most impressive player on the ice for all the scouts and NHL General Managers in attendance.

Lafreniere had a goal of his own that was called back because of an off-side zone entry and was otherwise throwing his weight around, knocking Team Red off the puck and creating chances for his teammates.

Connor Zary, a Team Canada World Junior cut, was a part of three of Team White’s goals for three points and demonstrated why he has been top 10 in the WHL in scoring all season.

Jeremy Poirier opened the scoring for Team Red Byfield just under four minutes into the 1st, but defenceman Kaiden Guhle tied it for Team White about two minutes later.

Guhle led Team White with four shots on net.

Team Red goaltender and Team Canada member Nico Daws took warmup but reported an upper-body injury and did not play. Brock Gould was in net for the whole game, stopping 27 of 31 Team White Shots.

Dylan Garand played the latter half of the game for Team White and had a shutout going until Dawson Mercer banked the puck in off Garand’s pad with barely a second left in the game.

The first fight in 6 years at a CHL Prospect game took place in the 3rd. Donovan Sebrango and Will Cuylie squared off just over a year after their previous fight during league play. Both youngsters hugged each other in acknowledgement of their fight at the end.

Team White outshot Team Red 32-24 and maintained the majority of possession in the 2nd and 3rd periods other than penalty kills. The touted number two pick in the upcoming 2020 NHL Draft Quinton Byfield did not get on the score sheet for his Team Red.
