USA 1 – Canada 0 FINAL

LONDON, ON – American goaltender Alex Rigsby stopped all 33 Canadian shots to lead her squad to victory Tuesday night. The 27-year-old Delafield, Wisconsin native is in her first season in the CWHL with the Calgary Inferno and is the second-best goalie in the league.

The best goalie in the CWHL was staring her down from the opposite goal crease, Canada’s Emerance Maschmeyer.

She stopped 20 of 21 American shots and has been having a stellar season in Montreal with Les Canadiennes.

Hilary Knight buried the only goal into a wide-open net late in the 2ndperiod after a side-angle shot from Hannah Brandt went off a body in front and bounced straight to Knight’s stick.

Canada pressed hard, outshooting and out chancing the US in all three periods, but were unable to capitalize on two powerplay opportunities and more possession.

The States also had two powerplays with no goals scored.

Game 2 of the 3-game series goes Thursday February 14that Scotiabank Arena at 7:00pm ET.

Geneviève Lacasse is expected to start in net for Canada, as this tournament is often used as an evaluation for the upcoming World Championships in April.
