Agostino's hat trick fuels Marlies' rout over Stars

Kenny Agostino potted two of his three goals as part of a six-goal onslaught in the second period, as the Toronto Marlies crushed the Texas Stars 8-4 in American Hockey League action Saturday afternoon.

Pierre Engvall and Nicholas Baptiste each added a pair of goals for Toronto (9-2-2-1)  in the blowout victory. Tanner MacMaster also added his third goal of the season in the second period.

Jeremy Bracco added three assists in the victory, including a beautiful pass to Agostino for the first goal of the game.  Pontus Aberg added two assists, giving him a team-leading 15 points on the season.

Hudson Elynuik and Jordan Schmaltz also added two assists apiece for the Marlies.

Joseph Woll made 25 saves, earning his third victory of the season. Toronto has scored 13 goals over their last two games, both victories, after scoring a total of two goals over their previous two losses.

Michael Mersch scored two goals for Texas (3-11-0-2), while Joel L’Esperance and Ben Gleason each added a tally for the visitors. Landon Bow made 21 saves before being pulled midway through the second period.

The Stars did not make things easy on themselves, taking five penalties and giving the Marlies' third-ranked powerplay (22.9%) plenty of opportunities.

The teams will renew their rivalry Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. EDT at Coca-Cola Coliseum.
