Tampa Bay vs. Carolina Recap

Week two of the NFL season kicked off Thursday night. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers prevailed against the Carolina Panthers in a close showdown. Buc’s quarterback Jameis Winston finished 16-of-25 for 208 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions, in a drastically improved game from week one. Wide receiver, Chris Godwin was able to connect with Winston with eight catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Before the two-minute warning, the Panthers challenged a non-pass interference call, which granted them a first down spot. With 1:28 left to play, the Panthers still had a chance to steal the victory. Quarterback Cam Newton, had a few good looks, but it just wasn’t enough. Panthers were unable to get passed the revamped Buc’s defense. Shaq Barrett had an outstanding defensive performance, sacking Newton three times and forced three fumbles. Vernon Hargreaves was able to seal the victory thanks to a big play at 4th-and-1. Hargreaves pushed Christian McCaffrey out of bounds not only preventing him from just reaching the endzone, but reaching the first down marker. Thanks to Tampa’s defence, Carolina was unable to score a touchdown.

Next week, Carolina faces off against the Arizona Cardinals hoping to end their double game losing streak. Tampa Bay will be at home against the New York Giants in week three on Sunday.
