Be Quick, Don’t Hurry Says Léo Rautins & I Agree!

This is a good way to start off the year! Toronto is 1-0 in 2019.Utah was said to have one of the toughest schedules in December by the NBA. Still no Valanciunas or Lowry for Toronto but Siakam and Leonard led the way.

(Jump Ball)

This is Fred Van Vleet’s 11th start this season and there’s something that gets you going when you start a game.Van Vleet had a pretty pass to Siakam for a thrown down over Gobert. Siakam got a new carrier high 28 pts and I am not mad about it!

Fun Fact:  Toronto has sold out 202 consecutive games!

The matchup that had my eye was Rudy Gilbert vs Serge Ibaka. Two tough physical but also smart players. Ibaka got a leg up with a tough turn around hook shot to put the Raps on the board first. It was Gobert who out shined Ibaka in this game though. Gobert put up 16 outs & 9 reb while Serge only had 8 pts & 8 reb. Gobert is now ahead of Joel Embiid for most double doubles this season with 32 as Embiid has 31.

What caught my attention was Kawhi Leonard. He was a little more sloppy than usual with a few close calls in the first half . Although he averaged 29.1 ppg in December ,hopefully January brings more points and less turnovers than last night. But I mean how much can I complain, the man scored 45 pts ( a new career high) in 35 minutes vs the Jazz. He is just too good. I mean I feel like he doesn’t even need votes to go to the All-Star game-he can just go!

Fun Fact: Kawhi is already making franchise history by matching Chris Bosh with most (17) consecutive home games with 20 pts 5+ reb of all time.

Joe Ingles was quiet, which was a good thing for Raptor fans because when he is hot there is no stopping him from beyond that arc. Ingles did pay amazing defence though! A Jazz player who did step up was Derrick Favors and whom finished with 21 pts & 9 reb.

The game was getting close towards the final buzzer as the Jazz come within 4 pts thanks to Jae Crowder who came out of nowhere!  Crowder who came off the bench finished with a team high 30 pts. The shot clock winds down and Danny Green gets the offensive rebound and mucks it back out to Kawhi who misses but then Siakam gets the rebound just to get fouled by Mitchell who sends him to the line. Raptors win! Raptors win!

It will be an emotional game come Thursday as Toronto heads down to Texas for the first time since the DeRozan/ Kawhi trade. I know I’ll be emotional. This will be a game you DO NOT want to miss. Tip off is at 8:00pm. Don’t miss it!
