TORONTO. – After a convincing road win in Minnesota, the Raptors rolled into Atlanta with a burst of excitement and looking to show their critics why they are the defending NBA Champions.

The Raptors who of late have been know to blown leads fought hard to hold a superb comeback attempt by the Hawks who brought Toronto’s lead of as much as 21 points in the 4th quarter led by Norman Powell’s 17 points in the last quarter to a minimal 2 point lead with 14.2 seconds remaining. Fred VanVleet who has been on fire since his return sealed the win after scoring 3 free throws with seconds to go.

This was definitely one of Powell’s best games as he took control of the game in the fourth scoring 12 unanswered points on 3 consecutive 3 pointers. All the way to through the game the Raptors shooting had been struggling holding an 83-82 lead heading into the final quarter.

Nick Nurse would have liked to rest his starters down the stretch but instead found himself bringing them back in order to prevent losing the game and the streak.

Considering that the Raptors have been for long stretches without the services of Powell, VanVleet, Lowry, Ibaka, Siakam and Gasol, the Raptors record keeps shocking their critics and now finds them only .5 games behind Miami fighting for the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
