Padres 19 @ Jays 4

The San Diego Padres smashed seven home runs en route to a 19-4 dismantling of the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.

Austin Hedges hit a grand slam to set the pace for San Diego (28-24) in front of the Blue Jays crowd. Fans inside of Rogers Centre were heard chanting “Let’s go Raptors!” at various points throughout the game.

Cal Quantrill (1-2) threw six innings and posted nine strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. He allowed three earned runs but just two hits. The Port Hope, Ontario, native impressed in front of the Canadian crowd.

Toronto (20-32) was led offensively by Justin Smoak, who launched a two-run homer in the fourth inning to score Vlad Guerrero Jr.

Edwin Jackson (0-2) allowed seven earned runs and seven hits, lasting four innings in the blowout.

Recently promoted Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added a home run and went 1/3 for the second day in-a-row. A rare bright spot for the Blue Jays today.

Hunter Renfroe (2), Wil Myers (2), Ian Kinsler, and Eric Hosmer (1) each homered to combine for a total of 13 runs scored, including Hedges’ grand slam.

The Blue Jays will seek redemption tomorrow afternoon as they look to avoid being swept in the three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. at Rogers Centre.
