New York 6 @ Blue Jays 2

Aaron Hicks hit a three-run homer and propelled the New York Yankees to a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday.

DJ LeMahieu went 3-for-4 with two RBI, including a solo homer, as the Yankees (39-22) outmuscled the opposition inside Rogers Centre. The victory helped New York avoid being swept in three games.

Former Jays’ pitcher J.A. Happ (6-3) provided seven innings of pitching and allowed just one earned run. His four strikeouts equaled the amount of hits allowed, also four, to personally earn a fifth consecutive win.

Eric Sogard drove in Toronto’s (23-39) lone run with a solo home run to right field. The bats were cold as the Blue Jays combined 1-for-6 with runners ins flying position.

Edwin Jackson (0-4) had another forgettable outing, allowing six runs, four earned, in the loss. Jackson has now allowed 29 total runs across his last four starts—this has reflected in his 11.90 ERA.

Gio Urshela also added a home run for New York as the Yankees walked out of Toronto with a convincing 6-2 win.

Aroldis Chapman converted his 18th successful save of the season and worked a perfect inning, needing just seven pitches to close out the ninth.

The Blue Jays will have a quick turn around as they are back at home to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday at 7:07 p.m. EST.
