Jacob Waguespack went six scoreless innings and Rowdy Tellez hit two solo homeruns, as the Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 at the Rogers Centre on Wednesday night.

Billy McKinney also homered on his leadoff at bat in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 Jays early.

Tellez’s homers were his 20th and 21st on the year, his third multi-homerun game.  Rowdy’s first of the night made him just the fourth rookie in franchise history to hit 20 or more homeruns.  The others – Eric Hinske (24 in 2002), J.P. Arencibia (23 in 2011), and Fred McGriff (20 in 1987).

“It’s pretty special, one of those things people dream of and work hard to do,” Tellez said post-game.

Waguespack notched his first win since August 16th (against Seattle) with a four-hit and five strikeout performance.

It was Jordan Romano who allowed Baltimore’s first run in the eighth, and then despite walking DJ Stewart with bases loaded to bring the Orioles within one, Wilmer Font got Chris Davis to fly out.

The Orioles has scored 21 combined runs on Monday and Tuesday, but couldn’t muster up more than two in the final game of the series, as closer Ken Giles struck out the side in the ninth.

That was Giles’ 22nd save in 23 appearances.

The Jays are off Thursday before taking on the Tampa Bay Rays in their last series of the 2019 season.
