AHL/CCM Player of the Week

            Stockton Heat forward, Spence Foo has been named the AHL/CCM player of the week. In 2 games, the rookie scored 3 goals and 2 assists for the Calgary Flames AHL affiliate.

            After struggling early in the season, Foo has now registered 24 points in 39 games in his first pro season.


All-Star weekend recap

            This past weekend was one to remember for some AHL players who were participating in the All-Star annual classic. Team North won the tournament thanks to rookie C.J Smith. The Rochester Americans’ forward took home the tournament MVP with 3 goals and 5 assists in 4 games. Utica Comet and crowd favourite Thatcher Demko was also very solid for the North Division, who had to comeback from a 3 goals deficit in the last minute of their last qualifying game of the tournament.

The East Division won the skill competition.

            The weekend was also the moment to celebrate the new AHL Hall of Famers: Jim Bartlett, Don Biggs, Brian Kilrea and Glenn Merkosky.


Gionta is back


            Brian Gionta, 39 years-old, from Rochester, will skate with the Americans for his Olympic tune-up. Gionta signend a pro-tryout contract, even though he was skating with the Americans on a regular basis.
