Toronto FC Lose Important Road Game in Portland
Toronto FC (0) Portland Timbers (2)

Portland—The Portland Timbers ended their four-game losing streak on Wednesday night, defeating Toronto FC 2-0, casting doubt over Toronto's playoff hopes. Fortunately for Toronto FC, they remain 6-points out of a playoff spot, but DC United, who had lost to the Philadelphia Union earlier in the night, are tied with 27-points and have 2-games in hand over Toronto.
Toronto FC had many notable players absent from coach Greg Vanney’s lineup including: Jonathan Osorio, Victor Vazquez, Gregory van der Wiel, Alex Bono, Chris Mavinga, and Sebastian Giovinco.
Toronto played well defensively in the first half especially with the different look in their lineup. Lukas Janson and Jozy Altidore connected on a couple early plays for TFC, but they couldn’t cause any trouble for Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella. Aside from Marky Delgado, who could’ve easily received a second yellow card and red card, TFC were a well-disciplined squad.
However, Toronto didn't fair too well in the 2nd half because Portland were able to wear them down and take advantage of defensive mistakes that would eventually cost them the game.
First, Sebastian Blanco received a through-ball after finding space in a spread out TFC backline, before crossing it to Diego Chara, who scored his 3rd goal of the season to give his team the 1-0 lead.
Portland added another goal in the 83rd minute after David Guzman immediately stole the ball from Toronto captain Michael Bradley after a poorly-timed pass from goalkeeper Clint Irwin, and easily put the ball in the back of TFC’s net. With the loss, Toronto have still yet to win a game at Providence Park.
Toronto FC are back in action Saturday night, when they host expansion side Los Angeles FC at BMO Field.
