Atlanta, GA--- Toronto FC’s resilience paid off on Saturday, when the substitute Tosaint Ricketts scored in stoppage time to tie the game 2-2 and get Toronto a crucial point on the road. This wasn’t a great performance for Toronto FC by any means however, they continued their point streak to remain in the MLS playoff hunt.

Atlanta United dominated the possession in the first half and were the more aggressive team, but Toronto kept their composure and scored at the end of the half when Jozy Altidore picked out the wing-back Auro, who then spotted Sebastian Giovinco for the Italian’s 7th goal of the season.

Atlanta’s Josef Martinez was undoubtedly the best player on the pitch. He tied the game with a penalty kick in the 53rd minute after a mistimed challenge by TFC goalkeeper Alex Bono brought him down in the box. The 25-year-old Venezuelan striker would then score another goal in the 67th minute, giving his team the lead and at the same time, further his own lead in the MLS goal-scoring race with an incredible 26 goals in 24 matches.

Alex Bono was spectacular in goal for Toronto FC, making three huge saves to keep the team within one goal. This was the difference maker for TFC because had it not been for Bono’s stops on Josef Martinez and Miguel Almiron, Atlanta could’ve ran away with this game early.

Toronto defender Chris Mavinga was shown a red card at the end of the game, which will result in a suspension. Mavinga has played well since returning from injury a couple weeks ago, so this suspension may affect the momentum he's been able to gain since then.

With the draw, Toronto FC leapfrog both Orlando City and Chicago Fire in the Eastern Conference standings, putting them five points back from the final playoff spot.

Toronto FC’s next MLS game is Sunday, August 12th, when they host 2nd place New York City FC at BMO Field.
