TORONTO - Head Coach Mark Trestman announced earlier this week that McLoed Bethel-Thompson will start at QB for Thursday's game vs. the Ottawa Redblacks. He made it clear that he hasn't given up on previous starter James Franklin, but cited that it's a short week for the Double Blue and that the tryout for a successor to Ricky Ray must continue. So for Week 8, it's Bethel-Thompson's time to shine.

The 30-year-old has yet to see a snap for Toronto this season. He bounced around the NFL for awhile before crossing the boarder and joining Winnipeg's practice roster in 2016. The Argos signed him May 22nd 2017 and he went 2-2 and 10 yards in two games. He can't wait for his first CFL starting opportunity.

'Well no doubt it's a good [Redbalcks] defence... I think the best part about it is that they're not walk-overs,' he told reporters Wednesday. 'I'm excited! You know, to play against a team like that you've got to bring your best... and when we win we're going to know that we brought our best.'

Bold words when he's up against the first place in the East Ottawa Redblacks.

Things to Know

Trevor Harris will get the start for Ottawa. Harris is coming off a 228 yard performance vs. the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Ottawa was unable to score a single touchdown, but still managed to win 21-15 off the incredible foot of young Canadian kicker Lewis Ward. Ward converted all seven field goal attempts.

Redblacks Receiver Brad Sinopoli was named one of the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for July and racked up 438 receiving yards on 35 receptions this month alone.

Argos RB James Wilder Jr. is still looking for his first big run of the season. His longest so far is just 18 yards, when last year his longest was 85 yards.

Argos Kicker Ronnie Pfeffer is out after taking a big hit in last week's 40-14 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishial plays the half-time show at BMO Field. Don't miss it!
