MLB Quick delivery

Dodgers land their Manny!

The Los Angeles Dodgers landed the most coveted man of this year’s trade deadline; Baltimore Orioles SS Manny Machado. LA gave up 5 prospects in this trade. Hours after the trade, Dodgers’ manager, Farhan Zaidi confirmed that Manny would play at both positions, shortstop and 3rd base.

Machado will be a free-agent this winter.

Pitchers traded

The Chicago Cubs have acquired right-hander Jesse Chavez from the Texas Rangers for prospect Tyler Thomas. Chavez gives Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon many options from his experience as a starter and a reliever. He will likely do both as closer Brandon Morrow is on the DL since last Thursday.

The Cleveland Indians also acquire help for their bullpen when they added a pair of relievers. Left-hander Brad Hand and right-hander Adam Cimber will join the Indians from the Padres in exchange for catcher Francisco Mejia.

With the addition of Mejia, who is #15 on MLB’s top 100 prospects, the Padres have now 10 of these prospects.

Uncertainty on the mound

Tampa Bay Rays’ Chris Archer and New York Yankees’ CC Sabathia aren’t sure of what the future holds for them. Archer wants to experience a winning culture. He’s been implied in trade rumors for the past year or so. He insists that he does not want to move from Tampa Bay, but he wants to see sustained success.

For Sabathia, his future is resting on his health. The big pitcher has had problems with his health, specifically one knee and confirmed to reporters that he wants to pitch at least one more year. At 38 years old, Sabathia has nothing left to prove, and will surely be considered for the Hall of Fame.
