Congratulations to the Washington Capitals for winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. What strikes me as crazy is how much Alex Ovechkin has been celebrating with the Cup since winning it. Now while some on social media have a problem with it, I think it's amazing. For years people whined about O.V with the popular opinion being he cared more about winning for Russia at the Olympics or World Championship then about winning the Cup. Well judging by his reaction to finally winning the Cup it is clear the people with those opinions were dead wrong!! His play and leadership were in instrumental in the championship for the Capitals. Hard to believe they were an overtime goal away from being down 3-0 in the first round. They also trailed in every single series so good on them for showing the ability to come back throughout their amazing run!!
The Golden State Warriors didn't have to face too much adversity winning their 3rd title in 4 years. They did Have to win round one with out Steph Curry. Then trailed 3-2 to Houston in the Western Conference finals but with out Chris Paul for games 6 and 7 the outcome was inevitable. They should have lost game one to Cleveland but the referee changing an offensive foul on Kevin Durant to a personal foul on Lebron James, a missed free throw, then J.R. Smith not knowing the score all in the last minute led to a Warriors overtime win. From there that series was over. Golden State swept the Cavs pretty easily especially since James broke his hand after game one due to all the circumstances I outlined earlier.
While the Warriors will once again be the odds on favourite to win next year that will all change based on where James decides to play. The Capitals will probably have a different look next season and the NHL is wide open. Enjoy the summer!!
