AHL Quick Fire

Calder Cup final

The Toronto Marlies took game 3 of the final series after a 2-1 win on the road against the Texas Stars. It was a defensive gem by the young Marlies who only allowed 20 shots on goal, giving 1 goal on the road. The Stars saw their 6 game home winning streak come to an end, after beating inflicting Toronto a first loss in 5 weeks.

It was a benchmark game, marking the 3rd consecutive sell out game in as many occasions in the final series. It was also the 9th time that the 3 first games of the Calder Cup final were decided by a one goal margin. Strangely, the team scoring 1st in this series is now 0-3.

3 new head coaches were nominated this week in the AHL.

The Grand Rapids Griffins named Ben Simon as their new bench boss. After three years alongside former head coach Todd Nelson, who was hired as an assistant, Simon was key to the Griffins AHL title least year.

Drew Bannister is now the San Antonio Rampage head coach. Bannister was coaching the OHL S.Ste Marie Greyhounds, taking the team to the OHL finals, leading the league in team points and win and being named coach of the year in the OHL and the CHL.

After the Calgary Flames named Ryan Huska an assistant coach, the Flames announced that its affiliated team, the Stockton Heat will be coached by Cail Maclean. He spent the last season as an assistant to Huska.
