AHL Quick Fire

AHL/CCM Player of the Week

This week’s Most outstanding player is Lehigh Valley Phantoms goaltender, Alex Lyon. Since the start of the playoffs, he has an outstanding record of 6 wins - 1 loss, a 1.49 goals against average and a save percentage of .959. Lyon had an incredible night last week, when he stopped the 94 shots on the 95 he faced, when the Phantoms defeated the Charlotte Checkers in 5th overtime.

The Yale graduate will be in the Philadelphia Flyers’ plans for next season if he continues to be lights out.

One more round before the final series!

-          The Toronto Marlies will face the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in what will be a very fast paced series. Scoring will be at a premium with two excellent goaltenders facing each other. Marlies might have the edge talent wise, but the Phantoms are on a roll and their pesky style of play will be a challenge for Toronto.

-          The Texas Star will face the Rockford Icehogs for the Western Conference crown. The Stars are an experienced group, but they will face an hungry bunch in the Icehogs who can count on young but prolific rookies. Rockford would want to finish games before extra time, because Texas are now 4 and 1 in 5 overtime game.

Manitoba moose forward, Patrice Cormier has been suspended by the league. It’s an automatic suspension after being assed a match penalty against the Rockford Icehogs.

He will serve his suspension next time he will be part of an active roster in the AHL.
