AHL Quick Fire

CCM Player Of The Week

Barnburner’s player of the week, even from the first round, is Syracuse Crunch Matthew Peca. The Petawawa native tallied 8 points in his team’s 3 games sweep of the Rochester Americans. With 2 goals and 6 assists, Peca switched in another gear since the start of the playoffs.

The Crunch will need his contribution in the second round, as they will face the powerful Toronto Marlies in the second round.

The stage is set

The first round is now in the past and the stage is set for the next one.

EAST:

The Syracuse Crunch will have the daunting task to face the regular season champions, the Toronto Marlies. Stacked with players who finished the season in the NHL, the Marlies are largely favourite in this one.

The Charlotte Checkers will face a similar challenge when they’ll face the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Although it seems like very improbable, the Checkers are full of confidence after sweeping the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins who seemed the better team on paper.

WEST:

The Manitoba Moose will face a fresher team, after going the distance against the Grand Rapid Griffins, when they will face the young and hungry Rockford Icehogs. It will be a very fast paced and high scoring series.

The young Roadrunners will play a much more experienced team when they will meet with the Texas Stars. Although they are highly talented, Tucson might have some problems to solve the enigma that is Mike McKenna.
