AHL/CCM Player of the Week
Springfield Thunderbirds goaltender, Harri Sateri has been named the AHL/CCM player of the week.
The Finland native was perfect winning his 3 starts. He stopped 82 of the 84 shats he faced with an outstanding goal-against-average of 0.67 and a save percentage of .976.
With last week performances, Sateri cemented his position in the top 10 goalies of the AHL.
Manitoba Moose receive honours
Coach of the year:
Pascal Vincent, from Laval, QC has been named the AHL coach of the year. With a 20 point improvement, it was easy for his fellow coaches and media members to vote for Vincent for the Louis A.R Pieri Memorial Award. Only in his second season as head coach in the AHL, Vincent’s Moose ranked top 5 in the league in every single team category.
Defenseman of the year:
Sami Niku was voted by AHL coaches, player and members of the media as the AHL’s best defenseman of the year. He will be awarded the Eddie Shore award. By doing so, Niku is only the second rookie to win this award in the past 60-year history of the Eddie Shore award. Niku finished the season tied 2nd for points by defensemen and third among all rookies. He scored 16 goals and collected 37 assists in 73 games. He also scored his first NHL goal in his 1st NHL game against the Montreal Canadiens in the past weeks.
Marlies, regular season champions!
With a point in their matchup against the Utica Comets, the Toronto Marlies clinched the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as your regular season champions. They finished the season with an incredible record of 51 wins, 18 losses and 3 losses in overtime/shootout, good for 105 points.
