AHL/CCM Player of the Week
T.J Hensick, forward for the Ontario Reign has been named the AHL/CCM Player of the week! With 6 points in three games, 3 goals and 3 assists, including 2 game-winning goal, Hensick helped his team win 3 road games, coming from behind in all three.
Originally drafted in 2005 by the Colorado Avalanche, Hensick has now collected 559 point in 620 games in the NHL.
Plenty of new faces around the League
It’s that time of the year again, when the snow melts and spring starts to show itself. Plenty of new faces will make their Pro debut in the AHL as NHL team will start to sign young prospects to entry-level contract. Players from the NCAA and the Canadian Junior Hockey League will have a taste of playing with the pros. For example, the Boston Bruins have assigned 3 of their top prospects to the Providence Bruins, Trent Frederic, Cameron Hughes and Joona Koppanen. The youngsters will enter the league in the thick of the playoff race. Players like Carey Price, Jeff Carter and Zack Werenski all join their AHL team and went on to win the Calder Cup before entering the NHL the next season.
The AHL has announced that 4 players will be suspended for a total of 9 games.
Charlotte Checkers, D Josiah Didier will mist his team’s next 3 games.
Also from the Checkers, F Warren Foegele will be suspended for 1 game.
Hershey Bears, F Chris Bourque will miss the next 3 games.
Finally, Lehigh Valley Phantoms, F Nicolas Aube-Kubel won’t play for 2 games.
