Weekend wrap up

What a busy weekend in the world of sports.

The NCAA tournament was truly March Madness. For the first time in the history of the tournament a 16 seed knocked off a 1 ending a 165 match losing streak. A streak almost as long as Curt Hawkins. Congratulations to UMBC who not only beat the top overall seed Virginia but did it in convincing fashion blowing out the Cavaliers. While UMBC deserves a ton of credit Virginia will now be the answer to a trivia question asked by fans every year at this time. Who was the first one seed to ever lose an opening round game!! Pretty embarrassing outcome for a team that had high hopes coming into this tournament.

The entire South bracket was turned upside down in the first 2 rounds. None of the top 4 seeds advanced to the sweet 16. That is also a first in this tournament. The top seed remaining is number 5 Kentucky. So many crazy things happened over the weekend including Syracuse beating Michigan State as a double digit underdog. Syracuse was not supposed to have a good enough resume to even make the tournament but after rallying in the play in game they have become a cinderella story advancing all the way to the sweet 16. Their run probably comes to an end against a Duke team that is playing as well as anyone right now.

Michigan won an incredible game Saturday as well needing a miracle buzzer beating 3 to beat Houston. The East side of the bracket is how most people expected as all the top teams advanced and it looks like Villanova's to lose. Plenty of more great games to come starting on Thursday night. Enjoy the sweet 16 and the rest of the tournament.
