Quick question: How many of you watched the Selection Show determining the NCAA post-season tournament teams…???

You see, what I was trying to do there was say something without using the (I’m fairly sure…) copyrighted terms and designations that would get any number of us in trouble if we used them…

Show of hands… how many…???

So, what did you think…???

Stole the thunder and drama from all the past shows, didn’t it…???

When the last four teams (65-68) were revealed as a group, that stole a lot of thunder and drama of year’s past. No slow reveal… no build…

Here’s how the top seeds were revealed back in 2009, thanks to our friends at CBS

Video

Off the top… that’s fine… early excitement in four programs…

And what the entire hour was like back in 2007, thanks again to CBS and the NCAA

But now, within the first ten minutes, we all knew that the match-ups in Dayton were taken care of and the sizzle turns to fizzle…

This season as an example… thanks to TBS and the NCAA

Video

Seemed a little fast… okay, a LOT fast… and the reactions weren’t allowed to breathe…

For a show that’s TWO HOURS LONG now…

And the order was flipped in the reveal- TBS used its virtual toys to tell us who was in before telling us where they were heading… I guess you make things last a lot longer that way…??? And I felt I had to phrase it as a question because I wasn’t at the production meeting…

I will give the folks at Turner a tip of the hat for having a live audience around to react- even as studio host Ernie Johnson got the chance to hang with them and eat some pizza on camera…

Twitter lit up the corporate cross-over and product placement. But if Pizza Hut is dropping major dime on the whole proceeding, I think the notion of asking “Pepperoni” or “Veggie” was coming at some point rather that it not…

Sprite, I’m sure, isn’t far around the corner- although I would lose it if Kenny Smith or Charles Barkley let out a post-chug belch on the air…

THAT would be a moment in a two-hour show…

What say you, Dear Reader, about two hours and all the newly-reformed bells and selection whistles…??? Let us know at @TheBarnBurns on Twitter or with me @OSGNelson…

Play it safe, everyone, we’ll see you next time!
