Hockey Night in Canada

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Washington Capitals

It will be a special game this Saturday, when the Toronto Maple Leafs will face off against the Washington Capitals at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland for the latest Stadium Series game.

Toronto Maple Leafs

After an inspiring performance against the Boston Bruins, the Buds dropped their last two decision in extra time against both teams from Florida. It the last couple of games, in Auston Matthews absence, Mitch Marner really stepped up his game and is now leading the Leafs with 53 points in 66 games. Head coach Mike Babcock will surely emphasis the fact to move the puck quickly on Saturday, with the likely difficult ice conditions. His team must put some puck deep in order to put a lot of pressure on the Capitals’ defence, who’s turnover prone. Freddy Andersen will face a lot of pucks from Washington’s forwards, as they will look to pounce on rebounds and loose pucks. Special teams are pretty even, so this game will be decided at even strength. Obviously, the Leafs’ penalty killers must keep a close eye on Alex Ovechkin from his signature spot on the Caps’ power-play.

Washington Capitals

Alexander Ovechkin will be chasing two milestones when his Capitals will meet the Maple Leafs in this year’s Stadium Series. Ovie will be looking for his 40th goal of the season and his 600th career goal. All eyes will be on him, especially when the Capitals will find themselves with a man advantage and Ovechkin will wind-up a powerful one-timer from the left circle. Other than the Tzar’s milestones, we will watch closely if the Capitals D-men will be able to handle the Leafs pressure and their speedy forwards. Braden Holtby must find his game for Saturday’s game. He hasn’t been very effective lately, after being one of the most consistent goalie in the NHL for the past 4 years. I think Toronto will be too much to handle for the Caps, but Alex Ovechkin gets his 40th goal of the year and his 600th of his career in this special game.
