It was another amazing weekend for the two Toronto teams that call the Air Canada Centre home.
We will start with the Toronto Raptors who have pretty much clinched the 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. They ended Houston's17 game winning streak Friday night building a big league and holding on for dear life. The Raps got a full team effort and were outstanding defensively especially in the first half. Toronto has made a statement not only in Canada but in the United States as well. For the first time in franchise history American analysts are predicting this team will represent the East in the final ending a streak of 7 straight Finals for Lebron James.
Sunday the Raptors went to MSG in an early tip in a game that could have been a let down after the Rockets win and blew out the Knicks. Toronto is by far the deepest team in the East with 7-8 players who contribute on a regular basis. Sunday was also a terrible day for the team trying to catch Toronto. The Boston Celtics fell at home to Indiana and star point guard Kyrie Irving left the game and is expected to sit out some time to get healthy for the playoffs. It seems the Celtics are waving the white flag when it comes to the division and the one seed. Oh and the Cavs got blown out by the Clippers and Lakers, two average teams. I can't see them just flipping a switch come playoff time.
The Toronto Maple Leafs snapped their 4 game losing streak with a convincing 5-2 win over Pittsburgh. The Leafs beat one of the hottest teams in hockey and showed they can beat elite teams with out Auston Matthews. Toronto has pretty much solidified the third seed in the Atlantic and need to get healthy to make sure they are 100 percent when they play most likely Boston in the first round. A great weekend for Toronto sports!!
